GENERAL BOARD MEETING MINUTES
DECEMBER 3, 2007
President Joanne Devine called the meeting to order at 7:20PM.
INTRODUCTION OF OFFICERS
President Joanne Devine read off the roll call of officers of the Hamilton High West Band Parents Club.
MINUTES
Frank Czepiga, Recording Secretary, provided copies of the meeting minutes from the November 5, 2007 meeting
for review and comment. After a brief period for review, the minutes were voted to be accepted as presented.
CORRESPONDENCE
Corresponding Secretary, Joyce Gallo was absent. Joanne Devine reported that the HHWBPC received a holiday greeting
card from Hamilton High School West.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
MEMBERSHIPS: 1st Vice President in charge of Membership, Susanne Worthington reported that nine (9)
senior families have not joined the HHWBPC. There are fifty-four (54) family memberships paid to date. The membership drive closes out at the
end of this month of December.
FUNDRAISING: 2nd Vice President in charge of Fundraising, Linda Giaquinto reported that the distribution for the A&M
pies fundraiser went smooth. There was only a problem with one (1) pie order. Thank you to all that volunteered their time on Monday, November 19,
2007 to unload, breakdown and distribute the pie orders. Approximately $1454 went into the student's accounts.
PIT CREW: 3rd Vice President in charge of the Pit Crew, Steve Mundt reported that the marching season has ended.
He expressed “thank
you” wishes to everyone that participated on the pit crew to make the marching season successful. See you next year.
LOGO ITEMS: Danielle Ingeri reported that the HHWBPC made $400 on LOGO items at the 8 th Grade Orientation
held on November 28, 2007. She also reported that suggestions are needed for LOGO items for next year.
ROSA's RESTAURANT: Rosa 's will donate a portion of their receipts to HHWBPC on the last Monday of each month. Linda Giaquinto reported
that Rosa 's again donated $200 back to the HHWBPC from November. The next date for this fundraiser is December 17, 2007 due
to fact that the last Monday in December will be “New Year's Eve” and it has been moved. Please support this “EASY” fundraiser.
SCOTTO's RESTAURANT: Scotto's will donate 20% of all receipts to HHWBPC on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Joanne Devine reported
that Scotto's donated $100 back to the HHWBPC from November. The next date for this fundraiser is December 11, 2007. Please support
this “EASY” fundraiser.
THANKSGIVING BREAKFAST: Frank Czepiga reported that the “Breakfast for the Band”, on Thanksgiving morning was a success! Approximately
twenty-plus (20+) band parents showed up to help serve breakfast for the band. Frank thanked all who either showed up to help out and
or donated item(s) to the breakfast. The band students enjoyed bagels, assorted muffins, Dunkin' Donuts, assorted juices, coffee, tea, hot cocoa
and bottled water.
Joanne Devine will make sure that Joyce Gallo will send a “thank you” to Bagel's and Beyond for their
generous donation of nine (9) dozen of bagels for the "Breakfast for the Band" on Thanksgiving Day.
CHIK-FIL-A CONTEST: Joanne Devine reported that we (HHSW Marching Band along with the Cheerleaders and the HHSW
Football Boosters Club) came in second in a contest sponsored by the Chick-fil-A restaurant in the Hamilton Marketplace. It was “East” (Steinert)
vs. “West” (Hamilton) during the week of the annual Thanksgiving Day game. Winner was to win $1000/split three ways. Second place would get $500/split
three ways. The contest ran from November 17 thru November 24, 2007.
Joanne Devine found out that the manager from Chick-fil-A would like to run this contest next year from Wednesday to Wednesday,
instead of Monday to Saturday. The winner would be announced at the half time festivities during the annual Thanksgiving Day football game.
8th GRADE ORIENTATION: HHSW sponsored an 8th grade orientation for incoming freshmen on Wednesday, November
28, 2007 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM,
starting in the high school auditorium. Danielle Ingeri chaired a LOGO table for the HHWBPC in the cafeteria during this event. Danielle reported $400 in
LOGO sales. She also thanked those HHWBPC parents that came out and volunteered to help out.
POINSETTIA FUNDRAISER: Barbara Venanzi, co-chair along with her husband, Dave, reported that the Poinsettia's
will be delivered at 3:30PM on Friday, December 14, 2007. Order pickup is scheduled for 5:00PM to 7:00PM in the
school lobby. Volunteers are needed to help unload the delivery truck and set up orders.
NEW BUSINESS
Danielle Ingeri reported that the end-of year event would be a PICNIC for the band at the Sawmill complex. The HHWBPC will be looking to
book this event for sometime at the beginning of June 2008. More information to follow in the next coming months.
Joanne Devine reported that a teacher at HHSW, Ms. Mary Kanoc, would be willing to produce our Super 50/50 tickets
for the Winter Concert, but she needs the ticket paper to proceed. They should be done in time for the Winter Concert on Wednesday, January
16, 2008.
It was reported that the top seller of the Super 50/50 tickets would get $100 placed in their student's account.
Danielle Ingeri has volunteered to be the chairperson for this year's HHSW Jazz Festival scheduled for Friday, February 15, 2008.
It would be good if we could get ten (10) bands to participate. Danielle will need volunteers for the event. If anyone is interested,
please see Danielle.
Joanne Devine announced that we have a chairperson for the annual Gift Auction. She is Ms. Maryann Herncane. It looks like a
date has been set too. Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 12, 2008. Maryann Herncane has copies of solicitation letters
for anyone that needs them. She will see the Webmaster to get a copy of this letter on the website. More information at next month's meeting.
Joanne Devine announced that Linda Giaquinto has agreed to be the chairperson for the Pasta Dinner. Date would be the Friday night
of the annual School Play. We will get help from the Drama Club under Ms. Amy Collins and split the proceeds 50/50 with the Drama Club.
More information on this fundraiser next month.
Linda Giaquinto stated that the Joe Corbi's Pizza fundraiser would start on Thursday, December 13, 2007 and go
thru Friday, January 11, 2008. Delivery date will be sometime before Super Bowl Sunday on February 3, 2008. Please see
the website for more information. Student profit ranges between $5 and $5.50 per item sold. Does anyone have any other ideas
for fundraising?
It was announced that the idea of a Flea Market fundraiser has been dropped.
Joanne Devine announced that the HHWBPC is selling Fridge Magnets for $2 each. No cost to the HHWBPC. We have 500 to
sell.
BAND DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Band Director, Brian Maher announced that the 2008 Band trip would be going to NYC to see the “DROWSY CHAPERONE” instead
of “YOUNG
FRANKENSTEIN”. The cost would be about $60 cheaper going to see the “DROWSY CHAPERONE” than “YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN” and besides, YF tickets are
hard to get too. Date for the trip is April 19, 2008. There are 100 tickets. There may be room for parents to go as chaperones. More
information to follow next month.
Brian Maher presented examples of what could be the “NEW” HHSW Marching Band uniform. Uniforms have to be ordered in January 2008 for
delivery in CY 2009. More information next month.
OPEN DISCUSSION
The next HHWBPC General meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 7, 2008 beginning at 7:00PM in the Band Room.
